Alli’s 30-Day Songwriting Challenge for the New Year

Alright folks, here is tphoto48he songwriting challenge I came up with for any potential songwriters out there who want to take part:

  • Day 1: Work on a cover of a favorite song
  • Day 2: Go to the dictionary word of the day and write a lyric with the word of the day in the title
  • Day 3: Uke scales, rifs, new chords (substitute for any instrument you play)
  • Day 4: Find an interesting phrase from a magazine, write a lyric with that phrase in it
  • Day 5: Pick a random uncompleted lyrics, work on it for 20-30 minutes
  • Day 6: Work on a new song melody
  • Day 7: Work on a melodic accompaniment
  • Day 8: Work on a new chord progression
  • Day 9: Find a new way to play a song you’ve already written
  • Day 10: Find a used song title and write different lyrics to that title
  • Day 11: Analyzed 5 loved songs (lyrics, song structure, melody)
  • Day 12: Find a new singer/songwriter, analyze 5 of their lyrics
  • Day 13: 30 minutes of piano skills (sub for any instrument you play)
  • Day 14: Work on a new song
  • Day 15: Go to a song title website, and write lyrics from that title
  • Day 16: Spend the day reading songwriting book(s)
  • Day 17: Write a song from a used chord progression sequence
  • Day 18: Music theory brush-up
  • Day 19: Songwriting exercises (youtube has a bunch)
  • Day 20: Piano exercises (youtube)
  • Days 21-30: Repeat any days you want to
