Rumi (Jalāl ad-Dīn Muhammad Balkhī) was a poet, theologan, and mystic, known for the spiritual and inspirational legacy he left behind, which can be read vastly in his poetry. He is one of my favorite inspirational writers, a great person to turn to in times of chaos and uncertainty.

The following are 8 of my favorite Rumi quotes:

“If you are irritated by every rub, how will your mirror be polished?”

“You were born with wings, why prefer to crawl through life?”

“When you do things from your soul, you feel a river moving in you, a joy.”

“Forget safety.
Live where you fear to live.
Destroy your reputation.
Be notorious.”

“There is a candle in your heart, ready to be kindled.
There is a void in your soul, ready to be filled.
You feel it, don’t you?”

“Let yourself be drawn by the stronger pull of that which you truly love.”

“Everything in the universe is within you. Ask all from yourself.”

“Set your life on fire. Seek those who fan your flames.”
